Family Field Trip

We had the BEST day as a family. I have decided that our field trips will be a family thing because my husband is a wealth of knowledge and sometimes he just leaves me speechless, especially in the realm of history. He has an amazing memory when it comes to history and events from his own life and the lives of others. What a gift that is. I can hardly remember my own life, let alone the history of the world, so I am so blessed to have a husband that can fill what I am lacking in for the kids schooling. Our field trip today was to take the Metrolink from Santa Clarita to Union Station and hang out at Olvera Street, then take the Subway to go see where Steve used to work and where his parents met at the Church of the Open Door. Steve gave the kids a brief history of his Dad's conversion and it was so neat to hear him explaining salvation while others passed by. I just love this about my husband, he is continually taking every opportunity to disciple our kids, even on Hope Street in the middle of downtown LA.

We also got to see the first LA fire station, a tribal dance, enjoy a yummy meal at El Paseo, and shop the fun vendors. Jack finally got his guitar, which he had been wanting for months. He was so happy when he finally got to play one, some of the best $10 ever spent for this little man! He played it and sang his songs most of the way home on the train and as soon as he got up from his nap he was ready to play more.

There are a lot of pictures because I just loved every part of the day with my family. I am reminded what a precious gift they are from the Lord when I reflect on our day together. It's rare we get to do something as a family out of town for the day and I am so thankful for these memories.

My Katy girl just cracks me up

My crafty little girl decided to hand sew some bags, gym bags to be exact, although I told her they were more like trinket bags because of the size. She was busy making them today and then wanted a table to sell them in our driveway. We decided it was safer not to be on the sidewalk, since I was not going to be out there the whole time. I tried to be a customer and buy one, but she politely said "I don't mean to be rude but I want to save them for "real" customers." She said she would make me a special one another time. After 5 minutes she decided it was not easy to make a sell, so she went door to door with neighbors that we know. She sold one and make a dollar, and then found out that one of the neighborhood girls was celebrating their birthday so she gave her and her sister a free one...Mommy's suggestion. I guess she got her Mommies love for crafts and maybe we'll have to have a craft booth in the future somewhere!

She off and riding!

My sweet 7 year old now lives on her bike. She was very hesitant to ride without her training wheels but one day I just took them off since she just turned 7 and knew what she was missing out on. And now that she started riding, we have a hard time pulling her off. We can't wait to get her own turquoise blue one with a basket for Christmas. We told her she had to ride consistently on her brother's until we invested into one for her. Thankfully she can fit on her brothers bigger 20 inch frame so when we get one it will last for several years...although it makes me sad when I see her on her brother's larger bike. She just looks too big. These pictures are on the small 16 inch.
